I lived at 6 Comstock for the 2019-2020 school year and it was the best off-campus experience I could have hoped for. The location is just around the corner from Cook/Douglass, far enough away to feel off-campus but close enough to feel safe and surrounded by other students. Not only is the apartment newly renovated, completely furnished and DECORATED, and well-equipped with a dishwasher, excellent shower/bathrooms, same-floor washer/dryer, and more, but Bill was also an extremely attentive and generous landlord in helping to fix any issues around the apartment quickly or simply checking in. These bonuses made the rent well worth it and created a stress-free living situation. It did not feel like typical student housing!

22 Jefferson was a rare find. It’s not very often that you find an incredible house for college living with an even more incredible landlord! I lived here for my last two years of school at Rutgers, and my only complaint is that we didn’t find it sooner. The house was in a very nice neighborhood away from the noise of College Ave, but not so far that it was difficult to get to and from campus. If you’re from a suburban area, you’ll feel perfectly at home at in this area! Security was never an issue, in fact I had a friend who lived on Easton Ave who had a package sent to our house because they knew nothing would happen to it if it came here. Bill responded to every question and issue (which were few and far between) that we had at the house. The fact that it comes fully furnished is a huge perk of living here, and definitely makes any difference in rent compared to other spaces completely worth it. Anytime I had people come by they were always floored when they walked into the house because it doesn’t look like a college house at all. Funnily enough, the only time I ever was in a house that was comparable to 22 Jefferson, it was actually another of Bill’s properties! I am always going to look back on my time here fondly, and though I’m heartbroken that my time here is over, I know whoever lives here after me will appreciate it just as much as I did. Thank you Bill and 22 Jeff!

Living at 68 Townsend Street was a really incredible, enjoyable, and comfortable three years of my time at Rutgers. Being a student at Mason Gross, the house was in an incredible location. Safe and close to all my classes on Cook/Douglass, as well as a three-minute walk from the bus stop to take you to any other campus. I also loved its proximity to Ryders Lane, Route 1, and the bus to NYC. The neighborhood itself is quiet, residential, and most importantly, one of the safest in New Brunswick. The landlord, Bill Winch, was always eager to make our living space even better and was always quick to respond, no matter the time of day (or night!). Repairs were usually done by the next day and Mr. Winch always asked our opinions on what improvements or additions the house could use. The house itself was outfitted with brand new windows, bathroom fixtures, and kitchen and laundry appliances. The locks are solid and there is plenty of light surrounding the house at night, not to mention the fantastic, well-illuminated back yard.

The house itself is sturdy, clean, and huge! Living there was so comfortable due to the large amount of space, but still extremely affordable because the house is so well built and the cost split between 8 to 9 other housemates. Even though I lived with a large group of my friends I never felt overcrowded or stressed over the number of people living there. In fact, it was nice coming home being able to relax in my own room or interact with whoever was home in the living room or basement. Cooking was surprisingly simple in the enormous kitchen (with granite countertops!), and there was always plenty of room for food storage.

I miss living at 68 Townsend so much! It was such a special place to be, and the envy of all my friends living in the typical run-down housing all-too-easily found in New Brunswick. 68 Townsend is the nicest, most affordable, best place to live at Rutgers!

I stayed at 6 Comstock Street, Apt. #3, for about 2 years now and I have felt like I was at my own home throughout my stay. The cost of rent was a good value for the apartment as it is very cozy and home-like. The proximity of the apartment to school was very efficient for safety reasons as well as transportation. Also, the most important thing that I found very helpful was how quick the landlord responded to any issues or problems. The landlord was very helpful and considerate, and he was flexible which was greatly helpful for me and my roommate. The only reason for me to leave the apartment in the future would be whenever I finish school; other than that, 6 Comstock has been a great home to me.

The bang for my buck with this apartment was one of the main reasons I took interest. I wanted a clean, comfortable, and functional space to live in and can enjoy. I spend a lot of time socializing on College Avenue like a lot of other students but was always turned off by the poor conditions of many of the houses and apartments there. Many of my friends were paying several hundred dollars more per month for rent for a room that was half the size of mine, let alone having to share a bathroom with more people and the overall conditions being far from clean. By moving a 10-minute bus ride away from College Avenue, I was able to save over $2,000 while also living in a far better environment. I could not expect a better price for a place like this based on the quality and location.

The house is located in a safe, patrolled area right off of Rutgers campus which is a must considering the day-to-day issues in some off-campus areas of New Brunswick. Being close to campus and on a block that is a mix of students and families makes for a safe, controlled environment that RUPD is always close to. In terms of getting to class it was very simple. The Cook/Douglas school buildings are about 5 to 10 minutes of walking away from the apartment and the bus stop to get to the other 3 main campuses was no more than 10 minutes away and required walking down a busy, main street of campus, making it a safe and reliable walk. Aside from rush hour when getting to or from anywhere in New Brunswick is difficult, I do not recall having many issues getting to or from classes.
The apartment always felt very safe because of both location and security measures at the apartment itself. There were never any significant issues with locks on windows or doors and Bill was always very responsive with anything that did come up, often fixing or handling a situation within hours of contacting him. The automatically locking main door was convenient and gave peace of mind if I ever forgot whether or not I physically locked the door, because I knew it was locked on its own. The added security of the unit specific door was also appreciated.
Bill was always very quick to respond to any minor fixes or issues that needed to be done. Problems were usually resolved the same day or within a few days at most, though there were very few issues in my two years of living there.
The kitchen was my favorite space in the apartment. It is newly renovated with brand new appliances and a granite counter top and built-in ceiling lights with dimmers. Friends and family did not believe that "college kids" lived there when they saw the kitchen. It was very spacious and allowed for several roommates to use the space at once. The large island also made for a great socializing area. The bathrooms were all very equipped and never had any plumbing or heating issues. The whole apartment is well maintained, and the newly built upstairs is a cool loft-style floor that includes bedrooms and a big general living space that is perfect for socializing as well. Overall, I don't think there are much better options for off-campus students who do not mind a short bus ride away from College Avenue. The drastically cheaper rent and well maintained, spacious apartment makes it an easy financial decision and Bill makes living there and dealing with any concerns very easy.

We lived in 6 Comstock Apt. #3 for three months. The house was very well furnished which we appreciated a lot. Good amount of space for two people and two minutes away from the Cook campus, making it very convenient. Having lived in another one of Bill's locations we knew he was a wonderful landlord to have. He is quick to respond to any problems in the house. I would definitely recommend staying at Bill's houses. Two thumbs up!

We lived at 22 Jefferson Ave from August 2016 – May 2017, and we enjoyed our time living there with five other housemates. The location was close to College Ave campus, and the Rutgers bus stop is within 10-15 minutes walking distance, which was convenient for some of us who didn't have a car. Even though it's around College Ave area, the neighborhood in Jefferson Ave itself was quiet and peaceful with mostly families living in the area.

The house had just been renovated when we moved in, and it was in a great condition, especially the kitchen (new appliances) and the first-floor bathroom (completely renovated). The house came completely furnished, including the bedrooms which was convenient and we liked how it was furnished. All of our housemates were our friends, so we enjoyed the common-spaces in the house (dining area, living room, sun-room, and basement with pool table!). The security of the house was sufficient with locks on doors and windows working well. Bill also provided good lighting for the driveway and back door with motion-sensor and asked our opinions when setting it up whether it has enough lighting, good position and so on. Whenever we had problems in the house, Bill responded very well and quickly. We had the old dryer replaced with a new one, also the microwave. Bill would come for minor fixes as well.

For us, the rent cost was reasonable considering the location, the house itself, and the experience of our stay. The only concern regarding cost during our stay was the oil for heating. Overall it was a good value. Bill was really nice, easy to communicate with, willing to improve and discuss with us about anything related to our experience living in the house. Our takeaway from living at 22 Jefferson Ave is that good relationship with the landlord is really important and can make the experience of living in a place more enjoyable and peaceful.

Living at 56 Handy St was one of the best experiences I had in college. I was living in a beautiful house with 9 of my best friends. It was an awesome experience.

The rent was reasonable, and a good value compared to the quality of the other houses in the New Brunswick area. The location of 56 Handy St was safe and quiet.  The house’s location put me really close to the College Hall bus stop where all of the REXB, REXL, F buses leave from, which makes getting to Busch, College Ave, and Livingston Campus pretty easy; however, the location is pretty far away from the Agricultural Side of Cook Campus, which means if you are an Animal Sci/Ag major, the location is inconvenient compared to living in the Newells -- otherwise it’s great.

The house itself was very secure and I always felt safe. Bill responded to all maintenance issues with the house quickly and took good care of them. The kitchen and bathrooms were top notch in terms of quality; the rest of the house was great as well - especially the study room.

Bill is a great landlord! I had a great time at Handy!

The cost of rent is extremely fair for everything that is included in the house, ESPECIALLY compared to many other houses in New Brunswick that are a lot more expensive. I feel Jefferson Avenue is the best neighborhood to be living in while I am at Rutgers, because I am close to Easton Ave. and other places I may want to go, but the neighborhood is not hectic, or loud like other areas around Easton Ave. I feel safer, more comfortable, and always secure. Some of my favorite aspects of the house are that we even have a little front yard, back yard, and an amazing sun room that we've stocked with countless plants. Also, the kitchen and bathroom downstairs feel new, remodeled, and have a wonderful appearance. Everybody compliments our house when they visit. Every single problem we've had was taken care of immediately. The hot water was not working, so Bill called for the oil to be replaced the next day. The bathtub was not draining, and within 2 days the problem was solved and has not been an issue again. Bill is within easy driving distance to the house, so he can and WILL personally come to the house to look at something if you request him to. That being said, he does not invade our privacy and lets us know if there is a reason he would like to stop by. All in all, this property has definitely been worth it, and we cannot wait to live here again next year.

Parent of resident at 68 Townsend Street

When I was looking for off-campus housing for my daughter, I had very clear criteria in my mind.

1. Location: first, it must be in a safe neighborhood.  Secondly, it must be in a convenient location, meaning close to the bus stop, and close to the main campus.

2. The condition of the house.

3.  Good value for the safety, convenience, and quality of the house.

4. A very responsible landlord.

I never found a house with all 4 to satisfy me until I found the house at 68 Townsend and met landlord Mr. Bill Winch.

1. The house is located near Mason Gross, just a couple of minutes’ walk to the bus stop and Douglass student center. The street is well lit. It's very safe and convenient location.

2. Inside the house, everything is well maintained. There is hardwood flooring throughout the whole house.  There is a big kitchen with granite counter topps, many cabinets with huge storage space, 3 big refrigerators. commercial grade washer and dryer in the basement for tenants to use free of charge.

3. For the location and quality of the house, the rent is a very good value (one of a kind!), very reasonably priced.

4. Landlord Mr. Bill Winch.  He is the most responsible, nice landlord I have ever seen!  You can reach him by his cell phone and he will come to the house almost right away if you have a problem, issue or need repair.  He installs his own window AC in the living room for the tenants to use during the summer and he will install the window AC for your room free of charge if you bring your own AC. After my daughter and her housemates moved in this past summer (2017), Mr. Bill brought a very nice set of sofa, loveseat and chair to the house (living room) for everyone to use. Can you find any landlord like Mr. Winch? He goes above and beyond for the tenants!

Last to say: Every kid in the house loves it, and once they are in, they stay until they graduate!

As a parent, I not only feel lucky to have found this house and to know Mr. Bill Winch but also feel happy for the best choice we made!

I feel incredibly lucky to have lived at 6 Comstock Street [Apt. 1] during my time at Rutgers.  While many rentals for students in New Brunswick are old and run down, our apartment was recently refurbished and in a safe neighborhood.  The location is ideal for anyone who spends time on Cook and Douglass campuses, and is also close to a bus station if you have to go elsewhere.  Best of all, our landlord Bill was quick to respond to any inquiries and always completed repairs in a timely manner.  Even with the new renovations and convenient location, the apartment was competitively priced.  I would certainly recommend 6 Comstock Street to anyone!

Living in 56 Handy St was the best decision I made. I lived with 9 incredible people, in a beautiful house, at an amazing value. I had friends paying that price for a double on College Ave., so I was ecstatic paying what I did for my single. It honestly was an amazing value because our house wasn't the typical college house - it had a beautiful study which we actually used to study in, a kitchen with an island with two fridges, a furnished living room, a usable basement which we used as entertainment space, non-coin operated washing/drying machines, and a responsive and kind landlord. The location of the house was an easy walk to College Hall and also to my job - I was a computer consultant on Cook/Douglass campus so this house was perfect for my morning and late-night shifts. I always felt safe at my house - Bill always listened to our concerns. For example, when we complained about rustling in the walls he quickly found and caught the squirrels that were scurrying in our walls and also changed our locks when we had troubles with our keys during frosty season. I miss a lot of things about college, but one of the things I miss the most is 56 Handy St. It wasn't the typical college house; it was so much more.

I lived in 6 Comstock Apt #2 for 2 years. Over those 2 years, I always found the location to be extremely convenient (5-minute walk from the Red Oak Lane bus stop), and safe. Compared to every other off-campus house that I saw in my 5 years at Rutgers, this had the nicest interior. Between the hardwood floors, spacious and updated kitchen and appliances, full upstairs renovation, and recent and well maintained central A/C / heating unit, there is a lot to love about this apartment. 3 Bathrooms also is a very nice thing to have in a 6-bedroom house. Overall, this is an extremely well maintained, clean, and spacious place to live. Any maintenance concern was quickly addressed by Mr. Winch, even preventative maintenance, which is extremely hard to come by in New Brunswick. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who is interested.

Samantha Castro, Class of 2019 Rutgers University

Brunswick Student Housing is one of the best if not the best off-campus student housing experiences one can take advantage of during their time at Rutgers. I had the pleasure of spending a year at 56 Handy that had a newly renovated study room (with printer) and multimedia room. The house itself is beautiful. Every room has noise cancelling door lining, blackout curtains, and huge closets equipped with closet organizers. You can also comfortably have 8 cars parked in or by the house. Another perk is that it's only a quick 5-7 minute walk from both Red Oak Lane and College Hall! For summer months, there are air conditioners in all the common areas (living room, study, and multimedia room) in addition to the house fan, and for winter, there is three zone heating for all levels of the house. The doors are dead-bolted so I was never concerned for my safety. Anyone who comes to this house will be BLOWN AWAY at the quality of this house. That all being said, I can still say that the rent price is a STEAL for what you get out of the house. Lastly, the landlord, Bill, was always very attentive and responsive to our needs. I am happy to say I am back living in another one of his properties, but my experience at 56 Handy was one like no other.
